Kuantan's main sightseeing attraction is the beach of Teluk Cempedak. There are also other scenic beaches popular with vacationers in the town's vicinity, such as Batu Hitam, Balok, and Cherating. Nearby Cherating Club Med, there is a Turtle Sanctuary.

Kuantan, the state capital of Pahang, is very accessible according to one's choice of mode of travel.
If you're travelling from outside of Malaysia, you need to first arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL), and catch a connecting flight to Kuantan (KUA).
Kuantan's small Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport (KUA) currently only fields a few daily flights to Kuala Lumpur (40 min, full price approx. RM 180)
Alternatively, you can opt for one of the ground transport options below once you reach Kuala Lumpur.
From Kuala Lumpur.
- From Kuala Lumpur, take the Karak Highway to Kuantan, starting at the first toll plaza at Gombak. Toll charges are RM4 per car.
- Follow the signboards to Kuantan. After approximately 40km, you will come to a second toll plaza at the Karak Highway. Charges are RM2.50 per car.
- From this point on, you're on the new East Coast Expressway. Continue on and turn out at the Gambang
Kuantan exit. This final leg of the expressway drive is approximately 200km and costs approx RM16.
- After exiting the expressway, follow the sign to Kuantan town center (Pusat Bandar Kuantan). It takes about 20 minutes from the expressway exit to Kuantan town center. See Map for in-town driving directions.
From Johor/Singapore.
- Travel north on the North-South Highway and exit at Yong Peng.
- From Yong Peng, take highway 1 to Labis and later onto Segamat. Segamat will lead you to Highway 12 and all the way to Kuantan.

From Kuala Lumpur. Kuantan is about 3 hours from Kuala Lumpur by bus. Fares are currently around RM 14.30

- Try the famous Kemaman Kopi-O from Hai Ping Kopitiam or Kemaman Kopitiam (see map)
- Hang out at the latest club in town, "Swing". (see map, near Kemaman Kopitiam)
- Satay at Zul's Satay (see map)
- Fresh seafood and "stuffed crab" by the Beserah beach at Pak Su Seafood Restaurant. Approx. 20 minutes drive from downtown.
- Buy salted and preserved fish from Sin Kee Hung. See a short write up here at VirtualTourist. Sin Kee Hung located approx 5km from town center, along the trunk road leading to East Coast Expressway. If you're driving, this place makes a good final stop before you head back to Kuala Lumpur/Singapore
